Kathryn "Katie" Nieves is a special education teacher at Sparta Middle School in Sparta Township, New Jersey. She works in both the resource room and in-class support classrooms, mostly in language arts. She runs a paperless classroom, using technology to empower her students. She also implemented a variation of the flipped classroom model specifically designed for the needs of special education students.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Centenary University in 2015 and will receive her Master of Arts in Educational Technology from New Jersey City University in 2019.
Katie is an advocate of differentiation, student choice, and student empowerment in learning. She strives to bring more awareness of teaching special education students and provide more professional development opportunities to teachers of those students.
She has presented about Google in the classroom at a variety of conference, including ISTE, AMLE, and various others. She believes in providing differentiated PD opportunities to meet the interests and needs of the participants.
